COUNSELLING BACK TO TOP

When is counselling helpful?
In most people's lives there are times of pain and confusion.

Anxiety, loss and difficult experiences can leave people feeling unable to cope, and needing help.

Many people use counselling to cope with:-
Abuse, Depression, Anxiety, Fear, Relationships, Sexual Problems and Loss

What is Counselling?

The overall aim of counselling is to provide an opportunity to work towards living in a more satisfying and resourceful way.

Counselling takes place within a confidential therapeutic relationship, and offers an opportunity to explore issues that are causing concerns.

Counselling begins with an assessment appointment to discuss your situation, and decide whether you wish to commit yourself to regular meetings, usually once a week.

KENRIC BACK TO TOP

  • Kenric was formed in the Sixties and its proclaimed aim was to combat isolation and loneliness among lesbians. From the start Kenric was to be non-political and non-feminist.

By 1977, Kenric was recognised as the social organisation for lesbians. Against the late 1970s climate of radical feminism, Kenric was increasingly viewed as a middle class elitist organisation for closeted women. It had certainly lost some of its more serious intentions.

In the 1980s Kenric began to redesign itself in order to serve its members in a more up-to date way. Now thirty-five years old, Kenric is the longest established and largest nation-wide social organisation for lesbians, and it has members in many parts of the world, too. Times for and attitudes towards all gays have changed drastically since Kenric was first founded and Kenric is able to reach out much more boldly to those who need it. Featured recently on BBC's Kilroy, Kenric is well known to all leading agony aunts, as well as student welfare officers in all places of Tertiary Education, and in places of special need like the prison service. Prominent at all major Pride events, and open to membership for all lesbian and bisexual women over 16, Kenric aims to widen its appeal to lesbians of all ages and backgrounds, in order to fulfil the task which remains constant - to bring them into contact with each other within a friendly and safe environment.

LESBIAN.COM BACK TO TOP
  • LESBIAN.COM
Lesbian.com is a journey.. an evolution that began when Sue was sitting at her desk in 1995 and had the (some say) brilliant insight to register the domain name Lesbian.com. Her intent was to protect the domain from the radical right and perhaps mostly because she thought the web would be an excellent avenue for dykes around the world to connect and network.

In 1998, Sue, Mel, Ana, and Gisele began talking about what Lesbian.com might become as an international lesbian resource. Collectively the four of them have years of experience with the web are committed to social and economic justice, and all are activists both on and offline. Together, they worked through difficult issues and came up with the mission statement. Many of you have kindly and graciously shared your thoughts and dreams with us. You've helped to set the direction and focus of Lesbian.com. Lesbian.com will grow organically. By this we mean that Lesbian.com will be what it is because lesbians from around the world will contribute and be a part of creating it's content. Our hope is that Lesbian.com will be a place where we can dialogue about ourselves, explore our issues, share our wildest dreams. We will grow it together.

We hope you find your way around with ease and that you have fun visiting the sites and checking out the content we've included. We have listed many sites which are exclusively lesbian and many that aren't. We've included some non-queer sites which we feel are relevant or just plain fun.

Lesbian.com is thrilled to now offer the Lesbian.com MarketPlace! A lesbian shopping adventure! The MarketPlace offers a space on the web to meet your shopping desires and list your products or services.

Lesbian.com was a sponsor for the Mautner Project for Lesbians with Cancer in September and we will be making our way again to the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Creating Change conference in November where we will once again be one of the sponsors.

We are still thinking about a section for us all to share our stories, stories about our lives, our coming out, our families and our stories of resistance.

Providing a comprehensive reference to lesbian information on the web is a goal we have nurtured since October of 1999.
